Is there anything more exciting than a new puppy running around your home? For me, even the thought of it brings a smile to my face. You just have to keep in mind you’re your new puppy isn’t all fun and games. It is important that the puppy’s health is your number one concern, even from the very beginning and in order to ensure that the puppy has a long and happy life, you need to be sure it is eating the correct dog food. Finding the best available dog food isn’t as easy as it sounds though.

One of the first things that you must realize is that the most obvious choice isn’t always the best choice. That sounds simple enough but you’d be surprised at the number of dog owners who make this mistake. Some brands of puppy food are made largely from ingredients that aren’t the best or healthiest choice for your new best friend. I recommend doing a little bit of research into the background of the companies before making a decision on the brand and always read the label thoroughly. This little bit of work now will mean a great deal later on.

Are you still having a difficult time choosing a dog food your puppy will enjoy? Have you thought about asking your veterinarian for some advice? Veterinarians are very concerned about the health and well-being of your dog and are more than happy to help you out with some recommendations and opinions. Some vets sell specific brands of foods in their offices and usually push those brands, which tend to be pricier, but for the most part, veterinarians are a great informational resource.

A lot of the better, high-quality dog foods are not going to be found at your local pet store or pet department of a retail store. My advice is to conduct your own research online to identify some of the better-quality pet food items available and where they can be purchased. There will some dog owners who can get away with using the same type of dog food throughout their dog’s entire life and then there are those dogs that have special needs and require specialized dog foods as the grow older.

Finally, if you are still worried about the type of food your dog is eating, try thinking about making your own dog food from the comfort of your home. Homemade dog food is often the best food a puppy can eat and this healthy lifestyle usually lasts throughout the lifetime of the dog. There is a wide variety of choices out there in regards to puppy food but with a little effort you’ll have an easy time making the right decision.

The next time you globule a line in the water off the field of a craft equipped with the newest sonar campaign, dig into the cooler beside your feet for a favourite potion and kick your feet up to like a relaxing day of fishing.

Fishing is one of the oldest activities known to man. Archaeologists have found outdated dumps of covering and bone, cave paintings depicting fishing and even hooks made from bone. There is even a system that state we might be quicker to the fish we try to surprise than we think. The “Aquatic Ape Hypothesis” contends the soul beings spent a time living by, and catching their food from the shallows of lakes and mountain. The controversial guess contends being of living that helped us to look different from the apes and chimpanzees thought by some to be our ancestors because this time evolving by water.

The outdated brook Nile was an angler’s paradise. The Egyptians relied on airy and dried fish as a principal in their diets, and the diverse methods they worn have been well represented in many archaic representations from their lives. Although they had some tools like nets, baskets and even hooks and lines, the fish fixed were regularly clubbed to overthrow. Perch, catfish and eels were among the most important catches in the Egyptian times.

The other bed of civilization, Greece, did not divide Egypt’s worship of fishing. Still, there is a portrayal on a lilac cup from 500 BC that shows a boy kneeling over a course with a live capture net in the water below him. It’s ambiguous why the boy was ‘fishing’ however, since the method is clearly for live capture. There also sign the Romans fished with nets and tridents off the sides of boats. One of they’re most infamous Gods, Neptune, is depicted regularly with a fishing trident. There references to fish in the Bible, too.

Perhaps the most recognizable tool for fishing is the hook. No one knows for certain, but it’s somewhat probable prehistoric man was using some form of a hook over 40,000 days ago. Experts have had some problems pinning down obtain dates since they know most of the materials used back then were most expected coppice and not very enduring. British Isle anglers hook fish with hooks made from the hawthorn bush, right up to the organize day. Although Stone Age man had the tools needed for making bone hooks, it is hard for scientists to get exact dates since bone does not outline its age well. The oldest known hooks have bowed up in Czechoslovakia, but others have twisted up in Egypt and Palestine. The Palestinian hooks are supposed to be over 9,000 days old, proving that fishing has been around for a very long time indeed.

Indians on Easter Island made their hooks from a macabre substance. Since being sacrificed were abundant in the area for sometime, the natives made their fish hooks out of the most abundant substance around – soul bone. Fish hooks made of human bone were the norm there awaiting missionaries indoors at the become of the last century. Besides hooks made of mineral, bone or timber, earliest man often mutual relevant to make composite hooks with barbs that reserved the taunt on.

Pets are people, too. At least, that’s the way they should be treated by their owners. The sad reality, though, is that a lot people own pets when they’re really not ready to care properly for their little furry friends. Or they just don’t know how to love, clean, and treat a cat, dog, or other animal the right and humane way. What happens to these poor animals? Many end up in shelters, lost and unwanted-to the tune of 6 to 8 million every year according to the Humane Society. At least half of those end up being “put to sleep,” to put it nicely.

When they first start out looking to buy a pet, everyone says that they aren’t like that, that they won’t have their pet end up caged in a pound somewhere. If you want to be one of the people who says this and means it, read on. Your commitment shows you are ready to learn how to own a pet. Once you are trained in the following pet ownership basics, then you can take the next step and find the perfect pet for you.

But before you meet this furry companion, take these following tips to heart:

Go down the list of required health-care needs. This is especially important for puppies and kittens, who need an arsenal of vaccinations when they’re little. But even older pets require regular checkups and the occasional medication (such as for heartworms for dogs). Before you get a pet, locate a trusted veterinarian in your neighborhood and go over all of your soon-to-be pet’s health needs.

Neuter, neuter, neuter. Point blank, this is one of the most crucial things you can do to protect your pet’s health. Remember that number above from the Humane Society (6 to 8 million pets in cages)? Now consider that as many as 100 million other animals, mostly cats, live on the streets. Why? Their mommies and daddies weren’t neutered.

Look into insurance. Believe it or not, pet health insurance is all the craze in employer benefits packages. That’s because it comes in very handy nowadays, considering the importance of pet health and how pet pills and operations seem to be getting just as pricy as people medicine. Even if you don’t get pet insurance through work, look into a package on your own. While you’re at it, consider third-party liability insurance, too, especially for instances such as dog bites.

Tabulate the grocery tab. Perhaps the number one thing people don’t realize when getting a pet is how expensive their food can be. Figure out just how much your pet will eat before you get it, planning always to provide your critter more than enough in proper and balanced meals. Ask yourself, “Can I afford this?”

Pour attention and love on your pet. Why even bother having a pet if you don’t plan to give it affection? That’s the whole point of keeping a critter around, right? So when your little guy (or girl) greets you at the door after work, or wants to snuggle in your lap in front of the TV, don’t push them away. Award them for their faithfulness.

Groom your pet. Grooming counts toward that love and attention requirement, but it also is necessary for the animal’s health as well. Depending on your type of animal, grooming could involve a bath, the occasional haircut, regular hair brushing, tooth exams, and paw inspection.

Hop, skip, and a jump. Animals love exercise. Whether they’re normally cooped up in a cage, an apartment, or, well, a coop, be sure to free them from these confines as often as possible. Dogs don’t just like to take walks to go potty. Cats don’t like to tear up and down furniture just to shred it. They have energy to burn, and will be better off for it.

Teach your pet proper bathroom etiquette. Speaking of going potty, it is essential to train your pet at the earliest possible age to do so properly. Of course, this doesn’t mean training them to put down the lid when they’re done (although supposedly rabbits can be taught to do so!). But it does mean getting a cat to use a kitty litter box, for instance, or a dog to wait until it’s outside. If you don’t know how to train them, learn before you own them. Ask your parents or friends, read a book, visit a chat room, or talk with the vet.

Consider a proper place of higher learning. When training becomes an issue, whether it’s for potty training or how-not-to-chew-up-your-shoes training, consider obedience school. It is not a mark of shame for either you or your pet. In fact, it may be just what your fur ball needs to live the happiest, safest, and healthiest life possible.

To put it bluntly, if you can’t follow these rules, you shouldn’t own a pet. Buy a plant instead. However, if you’re up to the task-and really, most people are-your rewards will be immense. For a little bit of responsibility, time, and money on your part, you and your family will get a lifetime of love and unconditional adoration.

Everyone who has a beagle knows how stubborn they can be. They have a very independent attitude and it sometimes gets them into trouble. Housebreaking them is no different, and your beagle may take longer to catch on. While there are some things you can do to speed up the process, keep in mind that housebreaking beagles does take some time, but if you follow this advice, you may be able effectively train your puppy in less time.

While it is best to start training them when you first get your beagle as a puppy, you can housebreak a beagle of any age, but the older they are the more bad habits they have likely picked up and the more work you will have to put in to effectively train them. But if you have a new puppy, you are basically starting from scratch so there are some things you can do to speed up the training process.

One thing to keep in mind is that your puppy will have to go to the bathroom very often. When they are very young they don’t know they have to go, so you should take them out to their potty spot after every drink of water they take, and after every meal they eat. You may also need to take them out every hour even if they don’t consume anything.

A good thing to do is to take them to the same spot to eliminate every time. That way your beagle knows what to do when you head to that spot. These are only some examples of what you can do to housebreak your beagle, but they are good starting points and should not be overlooked.

 Your Shih Tzu Grooming Routine
Your Shih Tzu Grooming routine does not have to be a time-consuming energy drain.?Contrary to popular belief, Shih tzu’s do not have to be “high maintenance” dogs.?Unless you have show dogs, your routine for proper Shih Tzu care is pretty much the same for any breed.
It all starts with a daily brushing of the coat.?This is a great time to also spend time bonding with your lovable Shih Tzu.?Place the dog on your lap.?Turn him on his back and hold him with his front paws resting on your arm, then with your other hand you are free to begin brushing his belly, legs and under his chin.?Most Shih Tzu’s love the attention and will allow you to turn them from side to side to brush them completely.?Be sure to use a dematting comb to comb out any mats.
Your daily routine should also include brushing his teeth with a dog toothpaste and examining the eyes and ears.?With their large expressive eyes, Shih tzu are prone to eye problems.?Be sure to check carefully for signs of dirt or loose hair on the eye.
Once a week, put aside some time for a good bathing of your Shih Tzu.?Always brush the hair and remove mats prior to bathing.?For most Shih Tzu’s a good Oatmeal based dog shampoo will do the trick, however a small number are alergic and will require an Aloe based shampoo.?If your Shih tzu has a long coat, be sure to use a good cream rinse to remove tangles.
DO NOT EVER PUT A SHIH TZU IN A “DRYING CAGE” ….. Shih Tzu’s have a short snort and can easily suffer heat stroke.?If you take your Shih Tzu to a groomer, PLEASE be sure to tell them not to put your precious companion in a drying cage.
You can blow dry your Shih Tzu, but keep the settings on low/cool and never blow the air directly at the face.
Once a month, you should take time to trim your Shih Tzu’s nails and pull excess hair from the ears.?I recommend you use a battery powered rotating nail file like a PediPaw for easy nail trimming.?They are much safer than nail clippers.
Your monthly Shih Tzu Grooming routine should also include trimming excess hair on the paws, the bridge of the nose and the underside of the ears.?The private areas will also need to be kept clean and free of excess hair.
Whether you decide to keep your Shih Tzu’s hair long and flowing or clipped into the “puppy cut” or whether you decide to keep the topknot or create the “teddy bear” face, your Shih tzu will still look adorable.
Shih Tzus are well known and loved for their loving and humorous nature.?Don’t pass up a chance at owning one of these incredible dogs for fear of Shih tzu Grooming.

Let me ask you this question. Did you know that there are 3 steps in building your pigeon loft that you cannot forget? You’ll be surprise to discover that many newcomers forget these three steps and there building ideas never really take shape. This does not have to be the case since the steps are so simple in nature and are many times overlooked. So what are the steps?

Step1: Decide first hand how much money you are willing to spend and stay to budget. In beginning any building project it is crucial to keep costs to budget projections. Building a pigeon loft is no different than any other construction project. It needs to be taken seriously. Without a plan on how much money you are able to devote to your pigeon loft and sticking to that amount you will never get your hobby off the ground. The costs should be divided into three areas: Materials for construction, secondary items for pigeon needs and growth, and insulation costs. These costs may vary on your size and construction of your loft so be mindful that larger may not always be feasible at first.

Step 2: Start small and know the building code of your state.

To many times newcomers get large ideas but don’t take into consideration that starting small is ideal. Since the building of your loft has to be up to code measurements for your state its best to begin small. In the case of your loft not meeting state requirements it’s easier to correct code errors in smaller lofts. As a rule of thumb 6m is a good starting size and should be aligned with most state codes. It also goes without saying checking with your neighbors and discussing your building plans would be ideal. You would hate to have your building plans shut down when a simple conversation could suffice.

Step 3: Building of your loft should be done in sections.

No matter how much money you have in your budget to spend your loft should be built in sections. If you are starting small as I suggested in step 2 your first loft may just be one room with next boxes, some perches, food trays and water hopper. This would be defined as your main section. The next section can consist of putting in a partition wall in. Again this is just basics but it expresses perfectly the idea of sections. Section building allows you the ease of developing bigger in the future if you choose to. It also provides a added bonus of being easier to maintain.

Now please pay close attention: What I described in this article is just the beginning of three steps you need and should not forget in building your pigeon loft. However there is so much more to ensure your loft is built correctly that’s why I am including a website that is devoted to this task check out http://www.pigeonloftdesign.com. and get your building done right.

In case you have not noticed, dogs are not like humans. It is clear, then, that they learn in different ways. Dogs don’t opt to behave according to abstract ideas like good and bad or wrong and right. Rather, they know what feels good and what feels bad. Whether its a physical or emotional sensation, dogs make a response to what they feel. That suggests they respond to their owner’s actions and behaviour toward them. They learn how to do what their owners grin about, and they learn not to do what makes their owners unhappy.

Golden Retrievers are really loving, energetic dogs. They thrive on attention and affection and will work energetically to get those responses from you. So when your Golden Retriever does the proper thing, reward him with praise, grins, laughter, or treats. This positive reinforcement will make your Golden rather more likely to do a similar thing again in the same scenario. As you might expect, you should not reward unwanted behaviors or insubordination. Withdrawing your attention and praise is a useful way to discourage unpleasant behavior. Sometimes, scolding your Golden with a stern’No!’ may do the trick.

Goldens are smart dogs, and they can quickly pick up on your cues and body language. When you’re making an attempt to teach your Golden something, whether it is a new trick or discouraging a unpleasant evil bad habit, you should not hesitate to speak your approval or disapproval. Disciplining your Golden Retriever five or ten minutes later won’t work – your dog must associate your actions with his behaviors, and your actions must happen instantly or they are going to be wasted.

Another significant point is that you must be patient and consistent. If your Golden is slow to pick up on a command or direction, do not give up or change what you’re doing. Plug along, doggedly giving the same verbal or visual cues over a period. As an example, if you see your Golden chasing a car, stop him straight away. Be sure he understands that your discipline is firmly related to the car. Even if he does not pick up your message immediately, repeat the same action every time you see him chasing an auto. You might try a verbal cue like’No Car!’ to help with the repetition. Hold your ground. Golden Retrievers can be strong-minded and uncooperative. Your Golden could be trying your limits. Be the pack leader and let him know you will not back down.

Praise should also be immediate and directly related to the behaviour. If you wait till your Golden stops the behaviour to offer praise, he’ll have no idea that the behaviour was wanted. He may even assume the praise is for stopping the behavior!

For the main part, Golden Retrievers are easy to coach. They want your warm feelings and love, and they are ready to please their owner. If you have difficulty training your Golden, it could be as he’s not getting plenty of exercise or attention in general. This could lead to rowdiness or overly timid behaviour. Due to the over-breeding that has resulted from their recognition, modern Goldens could have some behaviour Problems that were rare in the past. Your Golden may also have some health Problems that could influence his behaviour.

If your Golden Retriever is not responding as you want to you, you could consider joining an arranged class or taking him to a professional dog trainer. But before you do that, you must take him for a visit with the vet. Many behaviour Problems stem from pain or sickness. Be cautious to disqualify a physical condition that might be simply treated before you look to coaching as the answer.
.

Getting a new westie can be a confusing decision to make. But after thorough deliberation, you discovered that you are indeed capable of becoming a responsible westie owner. While you are filled with excitement on the thought of having a westie, it would be a great idea to start finding out the things necessary in raising and caring for that pooch.

A westie needs:

High quality food. High quality dog food is very important to make sure that your westie gets the nutrients he needed in order to grow healthy. Read the product label carefully before buying a certain dog food. Know that a high quality dog food has source of protein, such as chicken, as the first ingredient. Food that has corn, in any formulation, within the first five ingredients should be avoided because corn offers little nutritional value apart from being indigestible. Feeding should be done at least twice a day as opposed to one full meal a day to prevent bloat or other digestion problem. Seek out your vet’s opinion regarding dog food to be sure.

Water. You need to provide your dog with at least two dishes filled with fresh water everyday. Clean, cool and fresh water will definitely quench down your dog’s body thirst especially during summer. Choose a sturdy water bowl to make sure your dog can’t knock it when you’re gone.

Shelter. Dogs need comfortable and safe shelter they can call home. It could be a bed, crate, fenced yard or enclosed patio. The shelter must keep your westie cool during summer and warm during cold days and nights.

Health care. Even if your westie looks healthy, regular vet visits are still recommended to determine any physical changes that may possibly develop to diseases. Vaccinations and rabies must also be administered. Owners may also consider neutering/spaying if you are not planning on breeding your dog.

Exercise. Though a westie can get lots of exercise by playing indoors, he must be taken out on daily walks to fulfill the primal instinct to walk. A westie that is not given appropriate exercise and is not taken on daily walks may develop behavior problems such as chewing, digging and others.

Love and patience. Without love and patience, you won’t be able to provide the above-mentioned stuff. Give your dog some love and he will definitely pay you back with loyalty, friendship and would even sacrifice his life for you.

You’ve made the decision that it’s time for the family to buy a ferret, but you have no idea where to start. The first thing you want to consider is whether or not you want to buy a ferret or consider adopting one from the many rescue places that are around the country. You also need to take into consideration the value of buying two ferrets, so that they can help to keep each other busy and happy throughout the day when you are not home. These are very intelligent animals and they need a lot of stimulation to keep them happy.

Once you’ve made these decisions and you’re ready to buy a ferret, you need to look at the reputation of the pet store you will be purchasing them from, as well as the rescue organizations in your area. Before bringing your new pets home, you need to make sure that you have a proper cage for them that will be suitable for all their special needs. You’ll need food for them that is specific to their nutritional needs as well as a place to put their bowls for water and food. Don’t forget treats that are animal based as you’ll need these when it comes time to train your new pets.

When you decide to buy a ferret you’re going to want to examine their appearance very closely to ensure a healthy pet. You want to make sure they have really bright eyes as well as a soft coat. Make sure their skin is healthy as well as their whiskers. Play with them awhile at the store or adoption agency, to ensure that they are very playful and happy. The next decision you will face is the color. Ferrets come in a variety of colors and can be albino to darker colors. You may even find ones that are multi-colored with shades of chocolate and silver. The choice can be a difficult one as they all will look adorable.

Once you are ready to bring your new pets home, a trip to your local veterinarian is in order, to ensure the health of the animals, get any shots that are necessary and get information of vitamins and food. It’s important to note that ferrets cannot use cat litter in their cages, and you must have litter that is specific to their needs. Not to worry though, as even cut up strips of newspaper will most often work as well as anything else. Once you have the blessing of your vet, it’s time to introduce your new little charges to their new home.

If you plan to let the ferrets run loose in your home, then it’s important to ferret proof your house. These little guys are really mischievous, and love to get into all sorts of things as well as hide on you. If you are planning on training your new pets and want them to do tricks, make sure you have lots of treats available for them. You’ll find many helpful guides online that will help you in the care and training of your ferrets. You also want to ensure that their cage environment will be one that they can spend hours playing in as well as sleeping. Ferrets love to sleep in hanging hammocks so consider getting one for them. Once you buy a ferret and bring your new pets home, you can expect to have 8 to 10 years of enjoyment with them. Keep them happy and healthy and you’ll have hours of fun with them.

In order to manage to build a good dog house, you need a high quality blueprint. Building a dog house made of wood that is high quality it will only take a day if you have the right blueprint.

The house size

Many owners do the mistake of not measuring the dog before building the house, believe it or not. Some dogs are even claustrophobic, and they hate small houses. If the house is too small the dog will not go in it. You don’t want that so take his measurements first.

Three types of size are available. The first one is a standard house for a medium size breed. Small breeds fit perfectly and the medium dogs also. There is plenty of space to lay there. Make sure the house you are building is large enough but small enough to keep warm and prevent a lot of air circulation.

The second type is the large one, a premium size house. This one is recommended for the large breeds that need a lot of space. This large house needs a ventilation system and an overhanging roof. The roof will protect the dog’s entrance from winds and also from rain. The most complex house design is the duplex house. This one is big and it has room for 2 or 3 dogs. It has separating walls that can be removed to allow the dogs to snuggle and keep warm.

Top 5 Tips for Building Houses

After you decided on the house size, there are a few extra things you need to know.

1) Elevate the floor with a few inches. 3 inches is enough. If there is air or water, this will help it run underneath the house. It also keeps cold in the summer and warm in the winter.

2) Make the floor in a slope towards the entrance. The floor will make the water poor down.

3) Attach a few hinges on the roof. If you do that, it will be much easier for you to clean it.

4) You may want to have a flat roof. There are dogs that like to sit on the house and get some sun. Don’t make the roof of metal. It will get very hot.

5) Don’t make a "pointy" roof on the house. Sometimes the wasps or the hornets like to make a nest in there.
